HISTORY

The chancel area of the present building was constructed as a Parish War Memorial Church after the First World War, as a result of the views expressed by a meeting of the local community at that time. Throughout the twentieth century the building was developed in various ways, as the needs and wishes of the local community changed, and that process continues to the present day. In recent years a Music and Arts Centre has been established at the church, encouraging musicians and artists to use the excellent facilities the church can offer, and there are other community initiatives such as the weekly "Forget Me Not" Cafe for those living with dementure and others who can benefit from a safe and supportive environment. In the "History" section of the website we are gathering together some personal recollections and research results to help us understand the changing role of St Edward's Church throughout this period.
